Step 1: list your analyzers
Note each analyzer’s make, model and type (chemistry, immunoassay, hematology, flow cytometry) and the hours it runs per day.
Step 2: estimate daily volumes
Maumee estimates daily waste for 8 hours of operation, split into concentrated and non-concentrated effluent. As a guide from its analyzer survey: flow cytometers produce around 25–55 L, hematology analyzers around 45–110 L, and chemistry or integrated chemistry–immunoassay platforms from around 85 L up to more than 400 L.
Step 3: work out the design flow
Maumee calculates a design flow as the full-use hourly average reduced by 30% to allow for idle and standby time. For example, an analyzer producing 160–200 L in 8 hours has a full-use average of 20–25 L/h and a design flow of about 13–14 L/h.
Step 4: compare with system capacities
- TRESA H: 12 L/h, up to 2 hematology analyzers
- TRESA CI: 60 L/h, up to 2 chemistry / immunoassay analyzers
- TRESA CIH: 120 L/h, up to 3 analyzers
- TRESA CRD: 1 Roche biochemistry analyzer
- TRESA TL: up to 1,500 L per day for the whole laboratory
